Global Energy Trading Business
Charles Levick have partnered with a global Energy Trading business, and we have been commissioned to find a highly motivated Senior Japanese Power Trader as they continue to expand their ever-growing team.
Your role & responsibilities
• Manage your own trading portfolio and run proprietary trading strategies across the Japanese Power market (JEPX, bilateral/OTC)
• Develop short-term and medium-term trading strategies leveraging fundamentals, weather, fuel markets and grid constraints
• Work closely with analysts to generate market insights, forecasting models and data-driven strategies
• Monitor regulatory changes, market design updates and supply/demand shifts affecting the Japanese power landscape
• Maintain strong relationships with colleagues across risk, operations and analytics to ensure efficient trade execution
• Actively identify new opportunities within Japanese power and related cross-commodity markets (LNG, carbon, coal, FX)
Must Have
• At least 5 years of experience trading Japanese power markets, or a strong background in APAC power with a proven ability to transition
• A proven track record of at least 5 years of profitable active proprietary trading
• Deep understanding of JEPX market structure, supply/demand fundamentals, fuel switching and weather-driven dynamics
• Experience gained at a trading house, utility, bank or energy producer, with a focus on short-term or directional trading
• Strong numerical, analytical and economic background (degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering or similar)
• Ability to build and enhance forecasting tools, models and data pipelines
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to operate in a high-pressure, fast-moving environment
